Brian H. Bix is the Frederick W. Thomas Professor of Law and Philosophy at the University of Minnesota. He received his J.D. (law degree) from Harvard University and his D. Phil. (doctorate) from Oxford University. He is a Member of the Bar of the States of Minnesota, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, and also a Member of the American Law Institute. He writes primarily in Jurisprudence, Contract Law, and Family Law. His publications include Jurisprudence: Theory and Context (7th ed., Sweet & Maxwell, 2015); A Dictionary of Legal Theory (Oxford, 2004); Contract Law: Rules, Theory, and Context (Cambridge, 2012); and The Oxford Introductions to U.S. Law: Family Law (Oxford, 2013).
